Vote for your favourite charity in “Recycling Rewards” campaign

Recycling Rewards, now in its fourth year, is an innovative campaign run by local social enterprise, Bryson Recycling. Through this annual campaign Bryson donate £1 to charity for every tonne of garden waste collected through their brown bin collection service that they provide on behalf of Conwy County Borough Council.

From the start of October 2022 to the end of September 2023, Bryson collected over 7869 tonnes of garden waste, meaning they will donate £7869 to charity.

Three charities have been shortlisted for this year’s campaign and Bryson are asking local residents to vote for the charity they would like to support. The donation to each charity will be based on the number of votes they receive.

The charities are The Lily Foundation, the UK’s leading mitochondrial disease charity and the largest charitable funder of mitochondrial research in Europe; Banc Bwyd Conwy Wledig (Rural Conwy Food Bank) which serves the residents of Llanrwst and rural areas within Conwy County Borough Council by providing food parcels to people facing hardship, and ReSource CIC, a not for profit committed to making a positive impact on the local community and environment through eco-sustainable activities.

Gareth Walsh, General Manager at Bryson Recycling, said “We provide a fortnightly garden waste collections to over 22,000 households in the Conwy Council area, and for every tonne of garden waste we collect each year, we donate £1 to charity. We are delighted with the donation amount this year, which is our highest ever, and I would encourage local residents to get involved and vote for the charity that they would like to support”.

Cllr Geoff Stewart, Conwy County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and the Environment, added “By recycling their garden waste, local residents can benefit the environment at the same time as supporting local charities.  We are keen to get local residents involved in the campaign and would encourage them to tell us which charity they would like to support”.
