Bryson Recycling donates £8222 to local charities

Bryson Recycling has donated £8222 to local charities through their “Recycling Rewards” campaign. This is the highest donation amount to date since they launched this campaign back in 2020. In the last five years, over £48,000 has been generated for charities through this initiative.

Through “Recycling Rewards”, Bryson donates £1 to charity for every tonne of garden waste collected through their brown bin collection service that they provide on behalf of Conwy County Borough Council.

From the start of October 2023 to the end of September 2024, Bryson collected 8222 tonnes of garden waste, setting their donation amount at £8222. This year they shortlisted three charities: Blind Veterans UK, Llanfairfechan Foodbank and Kinmel Bay Community Centre, and asked Conwy residents to help them choose how much to donate to each through an online vote.

Blind Veterans UK help vision impaired service men and women rebuild their lives after sight loss. They received 52% of the votes resulting in a donation of £4275.

Commenting on the donation, Rosina Hearn, Community Engagement Lead from Blind Veterans said: “Bryson Recycling have been a great supporter of Blind Veterans UK, with the provision of gifts in kind to our Llandudno Centre of Wellbeing that have enabled us to provide beautiful, safe outdoor spaces for veterans visiting the centre.  We are so touched that their team members who have come to know the value of our work have put us forward for this vote and even more grateful to the members of the Conwy community who have supported us when casting their vote.  The resulting donation will be put to great use at our Llandudno Centre in ensuring our veterans receive life changing support and experiences that will help them lead independent and fulfilling lives.”

Llanfairfechan Foodbank are there to help people who are struggling with everyday living costs. They received 31% of the vote and a donation of £2549.

Penny Andow, Founder and Chair Llanfairfechan Foodbank, said: “This is a fantastic amount to receive. Any money donated always goes on food for our clients. We are a group of volunteers who give their time and energy to assist our community. We would like to thank everyone who voted for us and a huge thank you to Bryson”.

Kinmel Bay Community Centre provide a safe, welcoming environment and a wide range of activities and events for local residents. They received 17% of the vote and a donation of £1398.

Cllr. Nigel Smith, Chair of Kinmel Bay Community Centre said “I wish to thank Bryson Recycling for their environmental work and continued support of local charities in Conwy County. Kinmel Bay Community Centre will use this most welcome donation to continue providing activities promoting physical and mental wellbeing for its local residents.”

Cllr Geoff Stewart, Conwy County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and the Environment, said: “This is a great boost for these good causes – by recycling garden waste, local residents are not just benefitting the environment, they’re also helping charities at the same time. We encourage residents to keep on recycling so the Recycling Rewards scheme can help even more.”

Gareth Walsh, General Manager from Bryson Recycling said: “This year’s campaign has been our most successful so far, with our highest ever donation amount of £8222 and over 6400 people voting on our online poll. Thank you to all the local residents who got involved in the campaign this year – either by voting for their favourite charity or by recycling their garden waste.”
