Are you in need of a little bit of paint for your house or community project?
A Paint Reuse Scheme has been launched at Letterkenny Recycling Centre by Bryson Recycling where paint is available free of charge to householders and community organisations.
Bryson operate six Recycling Centres on behalf of Donegal County Council. They started accepting paint at their sites in February 2022 and since then have filled over 120 large bins with what they have collected and are keen to redistribute suitable paints as a useful resource within the local community. As a social enterprise, Bryson are keen to look at innovative ways to promote reuse and recycling and also to engage and work with the local communities in the areas where they operate.
Connie Gallagher, General Manager at Bryson Recycling said “We are delighted to launch this new scheme that will see the paint we collect going to good use. When we receive paint our specially trained staff will screen it and set aside any that is suitable for reuse in the dedicated container at our Letterkenny site. The paint is available now for community groups and individuals to collect, free of charge, to use in projects to improve their local area or for their own personal use. We would encourage anyone who needs paint to visit our site to see what is available”.
Suzanne Bogan, Waste Awareness Officer at Donegal Council said “Most households have partly filled pots of paint hiding in the loft or garage. When it’s time for a clear out, paint can be taken to any of our six Recycling Centres across County Donegal. Paint suitable for reuse can be redistributed to the public and local communities. This is a fantastic example of the Circular Economy at work. The Paint Reuse scheme is currently only operating at the Letterkenny site but we hope to extend this out to further areas later in the year.”
